Skin Food’s Mask Wash Off – Review

Have you ever tried a product and were totally shocked by it’s results? I have! And I’m so excited to tell you all about it!

Skin Food is a well known Korean brand that goes by the motto “Food that is good for your health, is also good for your skin.” Their motto is well reflected in all their products especially the wash off masks that are part of the Food Therapy line. This line contains a variety of products that have “Special food ingredients for the skin. Contains many nutritive ingredients such as fresh plants, fruits, etc. to keep your skin healthy”.

I actually have 2 of their wash off masks to share with you all. So this post will be slightly longer than usual 😛

Rice wash off mask

Product description: A wash-off mask containing rice extract that moisturizes skin and brightens tone. With its texture of
ground rice, it leaves skin bright, soft and lustrous.

How to use: After cleansing, gently massage with ample amount over dry face face avoiding eyes and mouth area. Concentrate around nose area and repeat it using grains. Rinse with lukewarm water after 10 – 15 minutes.

Capacity: 100g

The packaging of Skin Food’s wash off masks is very simple and elegant in my eyes. It comes in a semi-transparent white container. The product name, and product line description are printed (in english :D) on the textured paper which is stuck on to the lid.

Description of the mask wash off , directions on how to use it as well as ingredients list ( in English and Korean) is also stuck on to the container. The expiry date are stamped on to the container for shelf life reference. The good thing about these is they can last for up to 2 years. Both of the ones I will be sharing with you today were manufactured in early 2016 and will expire in 2018.

The consistency of the mask is very like that of a slightly thick lotion. Its not runny, but its not thick either. It contains slightly transparent rice extracts – these babies do the exfoliation for you – that are so soft they feel like jelly on your face. The mask does have a scent to it, which I can only describe a rice infused with mild floral essences (sorry, I cant describe scents to save my life!) But, I can say it smells so good!

You would be skeptical on this masks exfoliating powers coz of the very soft rice extracts, but after not exfoliating my face for a week (the things I do to my skin for good reviews) I quickly took back my words. The key for this to work is that you should use it on a dry face. I did notice that it doesn’t work as effectively as it should if your face is slightly damp. Be sure, to gently massage the product on to your skin, don’t use force and let the rice granules do all the work for you. Once you are done massaging you need to leave it on for 10 – 15 min before rinsing it off (if you don’t have time, don’t worry, you can wash it off straight away, you will still get really soft skin). As soon as you start rinsing it off, you will notice a big difference in how your skin feels. This wash off mask will make your skin so soft and all the have all the dullness washed off leaving behind clean skin that looks much brighter than before 🙂

Now, for those that want a whitening scrub, this isn’t the mask for you. I did not experience any whitening effect, however, your face does will be brighter than before due to it successfully removing all those nasty dead skin cells that took residence on your face. You will still have your normal skin tone!

Because the rice exfoliants are so soft, I do tend to use it 2-3 times a week – basically during the week when my skin feels a bit rough. It removes all the dead skin without all the rough pulling and tugging of harsh exfoliants.

Brown Sugar wash off mask

Product description: A mask that contains mineral-enriched Brazilian black sugar, and promotes smooth, glowing skin.

How to use: After cleansing, massage onto damp face, avoiding the eye and mouth areas. To minimize irritation, add water or toner while massaging. Leave for 10 to 15 minutes. rinse off with warm water.

Capacity: 100g

I won’t go in to the packaging as it is exactly the same as the Rice mask wash off.

This. Smells. AMAZING! That was my first thought when I opened this mask for the first time. You can straight away smell the sugar and citrus. The two together are an amazing combo.

The consistency of this mask is very different to that of the Rice mask. It is very thick and the sugar exfoliants are more on the grainy side. As you can see from the very appealing photo (not :P) it looks almost solid. Thinking about it, this product must have gone through so much just to be shipped to me all the way from Korea, and yet it still looks like it was freshly pumped out of the distributing machine :’)

The very visible sugar granules get rid of excess oil and grime, while a self-heating formula opens up pores, allowing skin to fully absorb the rich minerals and vitamins. Note: Please do dilute it with water before trying to spread it on your face, this will make the mask easier to work with and will not damage your delicate facial skin.

I can see that this mask will last me a while, a little really does go a long way, and remember that you need to dilute the scrub before it goes on your face. So you barely need that much to apply on your face. I recommend to use this mask once a week (2x max if you plan on using just 1 scrub for a while). I prefer to use this
mask as part of my weekend facial deep cleanse, it works so well when I use it after steaming. It does an excellent job in removing all the dirt that has been building up on my face, it even got rid of some black heads for me 😀 Because it is a mask as well, be sure to keep it on for 10-15 minutes for your skin to really feel soft and supple for the next couple of days.

Final Thoughts:

I honestly love both of these wash off masks. I find them convenient due to the fact they are 2 in 1 – exfoliators and masks. They both work well on my skin and most importantly they both make my skin really look clean and soft to the touch. My only reservation would be the hygiene factor. All of Skin Food’s scrubs come in similar containers and for something that lasts for such a long time, I am a bit worried about the germs and bacteria that will breed from scooping out the product with my fingers. I would prefer if it came in a tube. I’ve already recommended this wash off mask to my sister and mum and they were both sold. should you want just 1 of these, I would recommend getting the Black sugar wash off mask for those that want a stronger scrub for deep cleansing, however, if you are searching for something to use on a more regular basis, then the rice wash off mask is more suitable for you.

Where I got mine from:

I got one of these masks from Jolse. The other from TheBBCreamGirl. The black sugar wash off mask retails for about $10.60 but I got it for $8.60 during a sale on Jolse. The Rice wash off mask retails for AED50 (excluding shipping)
