Sheet Masks of the week [ June 4 – June 11 2016]

In this new series of blog posts, I will share my experience of the sheet masks I’ve used through out the week. As a proud owner of a ginormous sheet mask collection, I enjoy allocating 20-30 min a day to my sheet masks.  This means that there will be many of these posts coming up in the near future. So stay tuned 🙂

This week, I decided to use 2 sheet masks from Innisfree & The Face Shop.

1. Innisfree – it’s real squeeze mask in manuka honey:

What is it: A mask made with nutrient-rich manuka honey to moisturize dry, rough skinPhoto 6-11-16, 15 44 36

Function: Moisturizing

Thoughts: This is one of my favorite Innisfree masks, though I’m not really sure whether my opinion is biased due to my love for any product that has honey as a main ingredient, or if I actually love it. On days where my skin is feeling extra dry, I find myself reaching out to either the Mauka Honey mask or the Shea butter mask from Innisfree. This week it was the manuka honey. Right off the bat, you will be able to smell the sweet scent of honey! I find the scent helps me relax and get a very spa-ish feeling. The mask does indeed moisturize my skin and leave it soft and smooth. The best part of this mask though is it doesn’t leave behind a sticky film once it has dried off.

Will I repurchase: Yes, I’ve already used up 4 of these masks and I have thoroughly enjoyed it every time

2. Innisfree – it’s real squeeze mask in kiwi:

What is it: A mask containing the essential moisture from fresh-squeezed kiwis to moisturize and clear your skin!

Function: Moisturizes, clears & lifts your skin

Thoughts: To be honest, I was skeptical about this mask. Prior to purchasing I’ve read many reviews that claimed the kiwi mask is the most useless mask of the innifree it’s real squeeze mask range. However, I wanted to try it out myself so I got just one for trial purposes. I was pleasantly surprised. This is one of the first sheet masks that actually left my skin looking dewy and healthy. It has a very mild relaxing scent, and the mask is covered with a milky, creamy serum that moisturizes the skin, leaving it smooth to the touch. I haven’t noticed clearer skin, but that’s probably due to using just 1 sheet mask. The only negative thing I’d have to say about this mask is that it does leave my face feeling slightly sticky once it has dried off.

Will I repurchase: Maybe, but not anytime soon. Having sticky skin at the end of a sheet mask is an immediate turn off for me. But I am interested in trying it out again in the future.

General opinion on the innisfree masks – I really like the fit of these masks. They just suite my face well. The masks had so much serum that I had enough left over to pat on my face the next day

3. The Face Shop – Real Nature Lotus:

What is it: Hydrating, silky oil type essence. Hydrates and refreshes dry skin.

Function: Moisturizing

Thoughts:  I got this on a whim after seeing the new collection in store. I haven’t used The Face Shop’s masks in a while, and so I wasn’t sure about how well these will perform. The Lotus mask has a faint floral scent that I assume is the lotus flower extract. The serum itself is very light and refreshing. My skin soaked up the serum within 15 minutes and my skin felt so smooth and hydrated. The part I liked the most – it didn’t leave my skin feeling sticky. I actually enjoyed this mask and am excited to try the others from this new range.

Will I repurchase: Yes, These masks are fairly cheap considering it’s sold in Dubai. Each mask costs AED 15 and The Face Shop currently has the buy 3 and get 1 free offer going on. I was lucky to have some credit points from my previous purchases, so I only had to pay for 3 out of the 8 masks I got 🙂

4. The Face Shop – Real Nature Mask Red Ginseng:

What is it: A highly nourishing and energizing mask sheet containing extract of Korean red ginseng rich in saponin, a supplement to care for tired skin.

Function: Nourishing & energizing

Thoughts: I’ve tried Ginseng masks before and I’ve enjoyed them all, so getting this one was a no brainer. As with all ginseng masks, it comes with a very earthy ginseng scent that can sometimes be a bit too much. Its not that bad, but depends on how you are feeling on that particular day. The sheet mask is not white like the others, rather it is brownish-red due to the red ginseng serum. It does give a cooling sensation from the moment you apply it till the moment it dries off, and leaves my skin feeling moisturized, smooth and refreshed. I do prefer to use ginseng masks during the summer heat for its refreshing sensation.

Will I repurchase: Yes, I love anything with ginseng and this mask works pretty well.

General opinion on the face shop masks – absolutely hate the fit of these masks! The eye openings are so small and circular, the serum keeps going in to my eyes and irritates me. The lip opening was all over the place. I just had to lie down and close my eyes ( and try hard not to fall asleep) while it was on.

Thanks for the detailed review. I so understand your issue with their masks, i tried a few in the offer you mentioned and it got into my eyes. I understand that they primarily cater to Asians and their masks are made that way, but since they’re launching in other places now they need to give these supposedly small factors a thought.

Hi Sonia! Yes, Totally Agree! They should really look in to fixing the dimensions of their sheet masks. I’m actually really surprised because The Face Shop is quite international in comparison to the other asian skincare brands out there, yet their sheet masks have the worst fitting! Other brands (ex. innisfree and etude house) have a much better fit. Oh well, at least the serum on the face shop masks are good 😛
