L’oréal Paris Hydra Genius Aloe Water – Review

Surprise, surprise. I’m back at it again with yet another hydrating skincare product. L’oréal Hydra Genius Aloe Water is the topic of our discussion today. I first came across it at Emirates Duty-Free, tested it out and absolutely loved it. However, I only purchased it when I was in London over the summer.

No lies. What attracted me to the L’oréal Hydra Genius Aloe Water was the packaging and the fact it contained the word ‘Aloe’. But As we all know, the quality of the product is far more important than what it’s packaging may look like. So let’s get straight down to the review, shall we?

Product description

72HR Intense and Continuous Hydration. Lightweight Liquid Care Formula. Mattifed, Fresh, Healthy-Looking Skin.

Formulated to offer lightweight hydration, these moisturizers deliver instant hydration that glides on easily for quick absorption.
Specifically developed for Normal to Oily Skin, this water-based moisturizer is formulated with Aloe Water + Hyaluronic Acid to provide dual action:

  • 72 hours of instant and continuous hydration: it instantly infuses skin with moisture & locks it in.
  • Mattifying Action: it removes excess sebum for a fresh feel and healthy look.

The result? Skin is ultra-hydrated, fresh and healthy looking, with a mattified finish.

Sturdy, luxurious looking glass bottle with a plastic pump. The bottle contains 70ml worth of the Aloe water and isn’t too heavy to inconvenience you while carrying out and about.

For a moisturizer, I’m very satisfied with the pump. 2 pumps is usually enough for a thin layer all over my face, neck and decolletage. The pump also ensures that the rest of the product in the bottle is untouched and clean.

As the name suggests, the L’oréal Hydra Genius Aloe Water contains Aloe Vera. Aloe vera is a plant with so many benefits to offer for the skin and body. Among the benefits of using Aloe vera in skincare is:

  • Soothing – perfect for irritated skin, inflammation, itchiness, insect bites and stings.
  • Balancing – Aloe Vera has a pH value close to that of skin, its gel rebalances our skin’s pH when the levels are out of sync.
  • Healing – Aloe Vera boosts skin cell renewal, and leads to a quick healing of scars and also helps treat other minor injuries.
  • Anti-ageing – Aloe Vera’s firming properties increase collagen and hyaluronic acid production, thus reducing the appearance of wrinkles.

It also contains my favourite skincare ingredient – Hyaluronic acid which is capable of holding 0ver 1,000 times its weight in water to help hydrate and plump the skin.

The formula of the L’oréal Hydra Genius Aloe Water is like a dream. It’s lightweight and quickly absorbs into the skin, making it a perfect layering product. It leaves behind no residue whatsoever. We all know how important the latter is when it comes to selecting a moisturizer 😏

As soon as you apply the aloe water onto your skin, you’d notice an immediate soothing and calming effect. This is perfect for hot summer days or days when your skin is having some sort of irritation. To increase the cooling effect, I like to place my L’oréal Hydra Genius Aloe Water in the fridge. The coolness of the cold Aloe water is so refreshing and immediately starts working on calming down any redness or irritation you might be experiencing.

The L’oréal Hydra Genius Aloe Water has a faint, refreshing scent to it that adds to the whole experience. I find that it helps me calm down and the scent always takes me to the days spent in London 🤩

The only time I would use the L’oréal Hydra Genius Aloe Water on its own as a moisturiser is during summer. Otherwise, I add it to my skincare routine and follow up with a more intensely hydrating cream. Either way, I love how it gives an instant hydration boost. It reminds me of the Neutrogena hydro boost range as they have similar consistencies and results.

I do see myself repurchasing the L’oréal Hydra Genius Aloe Water. Unfortunately, however, it is unavailable in Dubai as of right now. Annoyingly it is only sold in Emirates Duty-Free and not in any of the hypermarkets 😒

There are three varieties of the L’oréal Hydra Genius Aloe Water:

  • Dry to Sensitive Skin,
  • Normal to Combination skin and
  • Normal to Dry skin.

The one I got is for Normal to Combination skin, however, I wish I got the dry to sensitive version as well for layering purposes during the winters.

 Final thoughts

The L’oréal Hydra Genius Aloe Water has made its way to become one of my favourite skincare products. As it is a skincare product that it can easily be used all year long and still give my skin the hydration boost it needs is a major plus point. Of course, let’s not ignore the presence of Aloe water and Hyaluronic acid – my 2 favourite skincare ingredients.

Although I am slightly upset by the fact that it is still not available in Carrefour like all other L’oréal skincare products. I shall wait patiently or just order some online 😆😆 L’oréal, you need to start releasing all your products worldwide asap!
