COSRX – Galactomyces 95 Whitening Power Essence
COSRX hit the K-beauty world by storm over the past couple of months. Everyone rushed to get as many of their products as possible, and I couldn’t help but wonder why?!
Upon my investigation, I stumbled upon the following sentence on their website:
It’s not tempting and good-looking cosmetics. However, only thinking of your skin health, we maximized good components and minimized harmful ingredients in reasonable price with our honesty.
I was sold. The company’s mission is to establish a new cosmetic standard that makes use of the finest natural ingredients to deliver products that help improve the condition and health of our skin. Sounds very interesting, right? Well, it was enough to convince me 🙂
I’m really enjoying the minimalistic design approach that COSRX has going on. The Galactomyces 95 Whitening Power Essence for example, comes in a frosted plastic bottle that is quite strong and study and just like most of their products, it comes with a pump that dispenses a little product at a time. I’m sure most of you would appreciate this, I for one am really tired of wasting a good fraction of beauty products due to the pump. I know, I know.. you can easily return it back in the bottle, but I feel its unhygienic to do so.
Another important fact to note about COSRX would have to be the really short ingredient list. Why? Because this just proves how much care goes in to selecting only the finest ingredients that are guaranteed to help improve the condition of your skin from within.
Ingredients: Galactomyces ferment filtrate, niacinamide, sodium hyaluronate, betaine, panthenol, glycerin, 1,2-hexanediol, allantoin, butylene glycol, xanthan gum, ethyl hexanediol, adenosine.
The image below (courtesy of Jolse) lists down the 12 ingredients and their main function. Have you noticed it is Paraben free? It is also free of ethanol, synthetic surfactant, artificial colorants, artificial fragrance, triethanolamine and phthalate 🙂
The Galactomyces 95 Whitening Power Essence actually contains 95% of galactomyces which is another fancy term for fermented yeast. The benefits of fermented yeast are endless but here are my top 3
- Well known multifunctional asian ingredient that helps in improving the overall health of the skin.
- Brightens and evens out the skin tone
- Provides the skin with the nutrients it needs to retain moisture and be healthy from within.
I love the above ingredient analysis, it educates us on skincare ingredients in a very simplified manner 🙂
[My skin type: Combination skin – very dry overall with a slightly oily t-zone. I also get mild occasional breakouts once in a while]
I’ve added this product to my skincare almost 3 weeks ago and have been using it every day and night. It usually takes 2-3 pumps worth of the product to apply all over my face and neck. The essence is much like water – it is clear, yet slightly thicker in consistency. Once applied on the skin, it dries off quickly and doesn’t leave behind any sticky/greasy residue. Also, it is almost odorless, I say “almost” because I’ve noticed that on somedays I do notice a very faint yeast scent, and on other days I don’t 🙂
(Note: If you apply more than what your skin really needs (approx. 2 pumps) then you will notice that it takes a bit longer to dry off, and there will be a slight sticky residue left behind)
After applying it religiously, I’m definitely noticing positive results. For one, my skin appears to be brighter and healthy. This doesn’t mean I’ve become 3-4 shades fairer, rather all the dullness has gone and my skin just looks healthier and clean from deep within. I obviously didn’t settle with just the visible results so I took it upon me to test out how well it moisturized my skin using a digital moisture monitor and here are the results:
Right after washing my hands and drying them out, my hand’s moisture level was at 10.6% and after applying the essence it rose to 37.4%. Not a drastic change in my opinion, but its pretty good for a serum 🙂 I actually didn’t expect it to rise above 40%
While I was at it, I decided to also do a quick PH level test. The Galactomyces Essence scored a 6.5. As seen in the image, it is a color between 6 & 7, so I decided to give it a 6.5, which means it is quite safe for your skin ( A ph score of 7 is considered neutral )
Quite impressed with the results to be honest, the essence has matched my expectations and more. Personally, the results with this one were eye opening, COSRX has taught me that simplicity is the key. Simple yet efficient ingredients is all you need for healthier skin ( this should be enough of an explanation for the other 7 COSRX products I got :p )
Another positive COSRX factor has to be their prices which are very affordable. I got my Galactomyces 95 Whitening Power Essence from TheBBCreamGirl for 112 AED. Pretty decent for 100ml, and will definitely last you 3 months if not more 😉
